Respecting the diverse voices of all children and their families means that we do not merely make room for them, integrating them in an educational process that remains unchanged, but we try to include them as equal partners, so that through interaction and exchange we create a supportive environment for learning and development that will be of benefit to all participants. The special challenge to be addressed is that of poverty which affects an increasing number of families, at a time when state resources are also scant.
The conference was international and diversity in children and families was mainly considered in terms of social and cultural background.
The Conference focused on the following themes:
and provided opportunities for reflection, networking, and sharing of effective strategies, examples of good practice and advocacy techniques through keynote addresses, panel presentations, discussion and working groups.
The target audience was primary school consultants, trainers, managers of early childhood care provisions, parents, policy makers and NGOs working with the promotion of social inclusion, equity and respect for diversity in young children’s environments.
