UPP European Conference

28 June 2010, Ghent, Belgium

On 28 June 2010 the DECET members active within the Project on Parents's Voices, organised a European Conference in Ghent, focusing on the different UPP (Université Populaire de Parents). At this moment, several UPP have been founded in France, Germany and Belgium. Within a UPP, parents aim to define research questions in relation to education,  parenthood etc. together with a researcher and moderator. The main aim of these UPP is to enable parents to enter in dialogue with professionals and policy makers, to work together on optimising the educational context.

At this very animated conference, parents from all different UPP (from France, Germany and Belgium) were present as well as researchers, professionals, policy makers etc. Plenary sessions as well as work shops were very much appreciated by the conference attendants.

During the conference a new book by E. Murcier and M. Clausier (ACEPP) was launched: “The parental universities: parents as actors, researchers and citizens”. In France, the UPP project has been highlighted within the framework of the European year on combating poverty and social exclusion.

More information and documentation on this conference and the UPP can be downloaded at www.vcok.be and www.uppacepp.eu
