The E.S.S.S.E Ecole de Santé Social Sud Est (of Lyon and Valence) is managed by an association governed by the law of July 1, 1901 and by its own statutes.

Its mission is:

  • Preparation for the social, educational, health occupations and initial, permanent and superior training
  • The organization and the support of all the actions susceptible to facilitate the development of the social and health work
  • Social promotion

The Association realizes this mission at three levels: legal, political, financial. The Association has an INSTITUTIONAL CHARTER (21/06/2001) which fixes the fundamental axes of its Mission and indicates the strategy to achieve it.

5 Fundamental Axes:

  • Guarantee the acquisition and the consolidation of knowledge
  • Favorising the citizenship
  • Live in ethical situation with the requirements which it involves by respecting rights and duties
  • Develop the spirit of initiative
  • Promote the functions of vigilance and the prospective by being watchful social observers in front of possible, desirable, necessary scenarios of future

6 Strategic Means:

  • Practise the partnership
  • Formalize delegations
  • Work by contracts of objectives
  • Subject the actions begun in evaluation
  • Lean on a conception and a practice renewed by the alternation.
  • Promote the transversality

The staff represents 107 trainers, managers and assistants, and 600 occasional teachers and trainers.

The partnership with professionals centers is as a network of 2 500 establishments for the EJE department. (Lyon and Valence)

Our main identity is doing training with permanent link between theory and practice in day care centers. To develop competencies for professionals, we use pedagogy founded on professional practices with different processes and modalities.

The ESSSE provides professional training preparing for nationally accredited diplomas in the following fields (2 000 students and professionals each year): child-care assistant, health-care assistant, community education facilitators, early childhood educators, nurses, social workers.

Our project in link with diversity is: “Respect for diversity”.

Objectives:

  • Integration in initial and on-going training programme the concept of Respect for Diversity (in theory and practice, and according to the context and professional position of each individual).
  • Diversity at different levels: cultural, family situation, and the varying abilities (physical and mental) of children, equality on gender.

The goal of the project is to initiate the children with the help of the adults (practitioners and parents) into a process of socialisation without excluding the differences.

Our specific activity is: Initial and on-going training of educators and child care assistants.

The EJE department is team of 26 persons (19 in Lyon and 7 in Valence): a director and her personal assistant (adjoint), 19 trainers and 5 assistants. The department manages initial training of educators of young children for students. A post academic training for 3 years with bachelor level by state certification so we engage 80 students each year.

We have also for the same training 2 groups of professionals without qualification who did training for educators of young children, the same diploma but staying in their work and coming for training more or less a week each month during three years and half. This year, we have two groups in this training, one of 30 professionals and one of about 25.

We also develop in service training in all day care centers of the Rhone-Alpes region on: diversity, pedagogy, project methodology, “analyse de la pratique”, management, collaboration with parents and so one.

ESSE work in DECET network since 1998 supported by Bernard van Leer foundation to develop training conference, documents and tools about respect for diversity. Board of ESSSE confirmed the link of the institution with respect for diversity and the perspective to consolidate European and transnational partnership.
