MUTANT Project 2 'Persona Dolls'
Persona Dolls are play friends in a group and are dolls with their
own character and their own story.
Persona Dolls are used for telling stories to young children, stories
that might make children feel well supported in their emotions,
and in their being different. The children are encouraged to show
empathy with the doll, so they may feel good about themselves, and
their own culture, and to show respect for other children and cultures
at the same time. The stories do away with stereotype images and
prejudices. Furthermore, children are stimulated to help the doll
to solve a problem.
The Persona Dolls method is being used within the framework of the
'Diversity and Equity' programme.
The Persona Dolls method is also a possibility to encourage parental
involvement. During the process of constructing the identity and background
of the dolls, the support of parents is very helpful.
This pedagogical method is disseminated by MUTANT through inservice
training and train-the-trainer courses in early childhood settings.
