VBJK is a Resource, Research and Training Centre on Early Childhood Education in Flanders, Belgium. It originated form a collaboration between the universities (Gent, Leuven and Brussels) and the child care sector. VBJK has a partnership with Kind en Gezin (Child and family), the Flemish governmental agency for children and families. The mission of VBJK is:

  • To set up action research and innovative projects in early childhood education on issues such as quality, equity and diversity (see the projects descriptions for further details).
  • To publish training materials, video productions and literature on early childhood education. In this respect, VBJK edits KIDDO magazine with the Dutch publisher SWP, and is the Dutch language partner of the international magazine “Children in Europe”,with Peter Moss as chief editor: see www.kiddo.net
  • To organise training, in collaboration with other training centres, such as the VCOK training centre for early childhood education (www.vcok.be)
  • To do fundamental research in the field of early childhood education. In this respect, VBJK is operating as a research centre at the Department of Social Welfare Studies of the Ghent University
