Open hands - inclusion of children with special needs is a staff development project on respect for diversity and equity in day care centre, in collaboration with the city of Antwerp, running from 2002-2006.
In a first period (2002-2004) six pilot day care centres were selected. They had intensive staff development on parental collaboration and respect for (cultural) diversity. In a large study day in June 2004 there results were disseminated amongst a group of 550 practitioners from the city of Antwerp.
In the second phase (2005-2006), day care centres will have the opportunity to build links with the pilot centres to further disseminate 'good practices'.
Furthermore six new pilot centres are selected that will develop practice on inclusion of children with special needs in mainstream services.
